Add gps data from csv file to the images metadata
« on: August 17, 2022, 11:31:51 PM »
I’m wondering if metashape pro can write the gps data from a csv file to the actual individual jpg or tiff images metadata? I have the images and the txt file of gps position points when images are captured but need to be able to write this data to the actual individual images for my client.

Hi,

this can probably  be done in MS by importing the csv reference data to your images and then using Convert images... from File > Export menu with Update GPS metadata option...

this should work...

That was a good thought but it doesn't seem to write the gps data to the image metadata.  I tried both Tiff and JPG images, neither have the gps data in the metadata ofter using this "Convert Images'' function in metashape. hmm

Try exiftool.
I've used it to extract metadata. It appears you can use it to add metadata also.

Hello z-air,

Update GPS meta data option in the Convert Images dialog writes the estimated camera location to GPS EXIF tags, so the camera should be aligned and the project should be georeferenced.
If you a not getting geotags for the images exported via Convert Images dialog, please provide the screenshot of the related estimated camera coordinates from the Reference pane and screenshot of the Reference pane settings dialog.
