List of tweaks
« on: December 05, 2022, 12:48:27 PM »
I know this topic has come up many times in the past, but it's still relevant.

After spending a lot of time on these forums, I noticed that a solution that came up often to fix a problem was to add tweaks. However, they are incomprehensible.

It would be useful to make a list of available tweaks with a clear explanation of their effect.

Hello ManyPixels,

Usually settings hidden under tweaks settings are used for debugging some issues or workaround uncommon problems. If we find, that some tweak may be useful for general cases, we usually try to extend the GUI processing parameters by adding an option for the corresponding tweak.

What was the problem that you have solved using the tweaks and which tweaks have been used for that case?

Hi,

I'm talking about general tweaks which could optimize processes in certain cases, like dense_cloud_max_neighbors for example. You can signically reduce process time knowing you have far less than 100 neighbors per images (especially when shooting interiors, it's really uncommon to have more than 10 neighbors).

I think it's better to keep this tweak system, so that users won't break the software. Users who know what they do would be able to find a tweak corresponding to their needs without crawling trough the whole forum. And as far as I know, the name of some tweaks have changed, so old posts often don't work.

A simple list, with all "public" tweaks and a brief description would do the job and it would be very appreciated!

Hello ManyPixels,

Reducing max_neighbors tweak value for depth maps or dense cloud calculation may affect the output quality for the complex scenes for close-range or aerial oblique projects - additional noise may be introduced around the thin objects.

As for the aerial nadir surveys, then reducing max_neighbors number wouldn't have much effect on the processing time, unless reduced to very small numbers, as there are already few neighbors for each camera (compared to oblique shooting).
