Dense Cloud to PTS (or e57, las etc) to RCS Problems
« on: January 06, 2023, 01:52:21 AM »
I've been trying to get the dense cloud out of Metashape in any form that can be imported into Recap and then exported to an RCS file.

The PTS will export and will be a decent size. It won't open in cloud compare or Recap. When it opens in recap, it shows just a long straight line of points.

Any suggestions? I'm pretty new to this software, so maybe I'm missing something simple.

Images were captured using drone deploy on a Mavic 3 Enterprise.

Hi tb107, in which coordinate system is your metashape project in? And can you tell us the parameters used in the export point cloud dialog window?

Kind regards,

Very likely you are exporting geographic coordinates: lat/lon/elev and they are read in Recap as if they were X/Y/Z.
If you think a bit, you will surely understand why all your points look like a single line, or better, like a tall stack of points. They vary some metres in Z and barely move sub-microns in X/Y

Thank you both. It was that simple change in coordinate system.
