Colourise Laser Scan bug / odd behaviour
« on: September 11, 2023, 10:31:47 AM »
As part of my ongoing effort to find a solution to the question I posted here: https://www.agisoft.com/forum/index.php?topic=15820.0, I have found an odd and frustrating issue with colourising imported LIDAR (SLAM) point clouds.

When we set the point cloud to 'use as laser scan' and then try and colourise this from our images that we have manually aligned to the scan, Metashape seems to duplicate the LIDAR to make a regular point cloud copy and colours that, moving the point cloud somewhere else as it colours it. This is frustrating as most of our SLAM data has been aligned to a control network using GCP's.

Our only workaround for this is to remember to change all the 'laser scans' back to regular point cloud objects prior to running the colourisation.

Is this a bug or is this the expected behaviour?

Hello Chani,

What version of Metashape you are using?

Hello Chani,

What version of Metashape you are using?

Currently using version: 2.0.2 build 16404 (64 bit)

This has been happening since back when V2 was just an initial beta version.

I can confirm the bug. A very important bug, actually.

I have aligned a set of images to 5 tls referenced scans, they all look fine, then I colorise point cloud and the result is a brandnew dense cloud object that surprisingly is well colorised depite its location is rotated and shifted unlike photos that remain well positioned relative to the scans. So it looks like the jump occurs after colourisation.

Most of TLS integration needs a full rework in my opinion.
