360 scanning features object+ textures
« on: February 21, 2023, 04:37:25 PM »
I‘m trieing to 360 gedree scan a object, but it‘s not working. Now somebody told me is featureless.

The object themself has a clean surface with no scratches or dense, but a lot of colorinfomation.
Is color  not significant for scanning.( what is important for scanning)

How to improve features? ( when color not significant, painting colored dot‘s on the object will it not help too)
Would chalk markers help? ( Uv-spay still to expensive for me).

Is  there a way to receive the real  textureinformation from object when covered?

Hello Schneck007,

the software needs to clearly identify the same feature points in different photos. If your object itself is featureless you can help the software with painting (color) dots on it's surface or project a pattern on the surface. Pattern projection has the advantage, that you can take two shots, one with and one without pattern projection, where the photo with the projected pattern can be used for alignment and mesh generation and the photo without for the texture generation. For pattern projection combined with photos without projection both photos needs to be shot from the exact same place and orientation.

Best regards,

Kiesel

Is it enough to mount the pattern(Lightsource)on top of the camara or need the pattern( lightsource)walk with the object?

The pattern needs to be stationary on your object. The same pattern have to be photographed from different positions, so the projector needs to be stationary in relation to the object and can't be mounted on top of a moving camera.
That's why you need more than one projector for some objects.

Okay this setup won‘t work with a turntable.

Thanks.

It works, but only when the projector(s) is/are mounted on the turntable too.  ;)
