Artifacts / Noise on 3d Model
« on: September 10, 2013, 10:59:59 AM »
Hello,

Im getting some strange noise / artifacts on my 3d model, i dont know what may be the source of this.
-> i shot this white matte object using diffuse / constant lighting
-> Canon MarkII 50mm lens
-> Fixed camera position, rotating the object on a tripod. 36 photos.
-> (I used mask from background)

Settings: Mild
Quality: High
Geometry type: Sharp
No decimation

Any ideas ?

Thank you,
Manuel.

I guess you need more pictures in different heights, so try to turn around more near to the ground and another time more up, if you can.

Maybe smooth geometry will avoid some of them, but of course making things more unsharp.

Hello Manuel,

I recommend to use Smooth geometry type parameter and Aggressive depth filtering.

Here are the results:
- Noise is still there, however its smoothed out leading to loose of detail or innacurate forms

- I notice that noise is present in shadow zones, or cavities of the sculpture facsimil. (but theyre seen zones by the cameras) so it shouldnt be a problem of overlap shouldnt it ?

- A colleague of me processed this same object with a different set up he did, i remember seeing less noise, maybe i did something wrong ?

Thank you!

36 images is seems to be low, try recapture it and add to approx 72 images. try 2 diff heights and even few from TOP of the model. contact me on muzeumhb@gmail.com. can give few more tips fro quality improvements.... are you shooting in RAW ?

7eicher > Yes, the next step is to try this to see the results :)
Wishgranter> Thank you, that would be great. Ill contact you!

I dont want to go offtopic but my possibilities or tests relay on what i want to achieve:

Im trying to obtain a fairly good 3d model of a face (probably until the ears + chin) for surgery purposes.
The system needs to be "cheap". So i need to find a good mix between budget, quality and time.

- I thought that maybe 6, Canon600d would be sufficient to achieve this (maybe more cameras but cheaper ones ?)  (Any ideas?)
- Before this, im trying to get familiar with pasive stereophotogrammetry. (This is why i did this short test with "36" cameras)

Again, thank you for your kind support. :)
