The time it takes to merge Chunks
« on: October 06, 2023, 03:16:12 AM »
I have a large photogrammetry project about 85,000 images, that I need to process.
As a practice I started with a 20,000 image project, cut it in to 3 areas and processed it as 3 chunks.
I'm trying to align the 3 chunks now and after 48hr's I'm on 2%.  Is that the expected time for something like this, 100 days just to align?

Hello RA,

If you have selected tie point based chunk alignment, then it will take a long time for such large dataset, as the images from different chunks will be matched to find the tie points for the alignment.

Whats the recommended way to merge chunks?
Initially I had only processed single chunk projects so I didn't know what I was doing.
I processed each chunk in a different project all the way to producing a DEM, DTM and Ortho image
Then tried to align which didn't work.
Then I tried to merge the DEM and ortho layers and export which didn't work
Then tried to merge the point clouds and export which didn't work
Now I'm trying to build a new point cloud from the merged tie points with 2 days remaining.
