Dense point cloud to Autocad
« on: June 16, 2023, 11:49:05 AM »
I've generated a dense cloud of around 60 millions of points.
I need to work the cloud on autocad.
Is the suggested workflow to export the cloud to recap as PTS or LAS, then export an RCP to attach in autocad?
The dense cloud can be even generated at a lower quality, considering the finality of the job.
Thank you

Hi barrubba,

please export the dense point cloud as LAS. Then convert the LAS with Autodesk ReCap to RCP. You do not need to pay for the ReCap PRO version, the basic conversion to RCP is free.

Late reply but typically you create TINs from ground points and use that to do civil design with.
If you are trying to do terrain profiles without civil3d, look into Carlson or Dotsoft tools for autocad.
Not free, but $2000 in tools is only 20 hours if billing $100 and hour. You will waste far more than that without decent civil tools.
