What exactly do the reconstruction Quality labels mean?
« on: November 14, 2013, 02:40:08 PM »
The 'Quality' parameter for geometry reconstruction is split into low, medium, high etc.
Can someone please help me understand what these values mean?

I would guess they refer to the size/resolution of the resulting depth maps but have not found any information so far regarding this.  And if that is really the case, are these quality names ('low', 'medium', 'high') substitutes for certain percentages (e.g. 'low' meaning depth map has 10% size of the original image)?

Thanks for any insights
Martin

Hello Martin,

Images are downscaled corresponding to the target quality selected:
Ultra High - no scaling
High - images are downscaled two times by each side
Medium - downscaling four times by each side
Low - eight times
Lowest - sixteen times

Perfect, thanks a lot!
I wonder why you don't call it that way. 'low', 'medium', 'high' doesn't tell us much. ;-)

Thanks again

Agree, would suggest to extend the label like:

Ultra (Original image size)
High (Reduced by 2)
Med (Reduced by 4)

and so on...

I would do it like this:

The user interface is more complex this way, but this way it shows exactly what the setting means.

The Custom input field would become editable if the user selects "Custom" from the drop down menu. Right now the step between Ultra (100%) and High (50%) is really high. It would be nice to be able to set it to 75% for example.

My guess is the increments of 1, 2, 4, 8, 16 are inherent in the algorithms used.
