Orthophoto as a mask over pointcloud
« on: July 26, 2023, 07:32:55 PM »
Hi,

I'm wondering if there is a way to apply a 2D mask over a point cloud. The mask would be a modified orthophoto of that point cloud. I guess one would have to take into account how the data is being projected (planar vs cylindrical) when orthophoto is being created and how it would be applied back again onto a point cloud. Open to ideas and a discussion!

Cheers

Hello Karla,

What is the purpose of this mask, which task you need to solve?

Hello Alexey,

I plan on identifying certain objects on the orthophoto and would like to project that information on a point cloud, kind of layering a classified orthophoto on top of it. Is there a way to load and apply such a mask over a point cloud or a mesh in Metashape Pro?

Cheers

Hello Karla,

Maybe it would be easier to draw the shapes over orthomosaic, update the altitude (providing that DEM is present) and check them in the Model view over the dense point cloud? Based on the polygonal shapes the dense cloud points can be selected via Tools Menu -> Point Cloud -> Select Points by Shapes.
