improve quality of dem
« on: December 14, 2023, 12:36:03 PM »
Hi
I try to improve my DEMs quality.
I filter dense clouds by confidence and after I re-process a new DEM, I obtain the same DEM reconstructed from the original dense cloud.
Could you explain to me why cleaning the model does not produce change in the new DEM even if I ask Metashape to process de DEM from the dense cloud and not the depth maps
Thank you
Isabel

Hello Isabel,

Do you delete points when filtering by confidence?

1) Filter by confidence to show only the points you want to exclude (eg. filter with a range of 0 - 3)
2) Select all these points.
3) From the PointCloud menu bar choose Assign Class. (eg. assign to Low Point (Noise))
4) In Build DEM menu choose Source as Point Cloud and then under the Interpolation method you will see the option of Point Classes:All. Click the button SELECT.. and from the list exclude the class you assigned the points you want to exclude.

This way it will use only the Classes you need to build the DEM without the need to delete these points from the project.

Hi Alexey and Costas and Isabel,

I notice that same issue persist when you want to create mesh, after selecting "filter by confidence" and deleting points I got visually same results (or so identical that I could say that are same)
I've done this on Agisoft Cloud, after deleting points locally, and I notice that generated mesh is the same on the spots which should be look way better cause I removed  points.
I noticed this way before I saw that someone has same issue, but the reason why I did not reported issue at the time - because I thought there is something with my workflow....or I'm doing something wrong...

Overall...yeah it's strange when you remove bad points from dense cloud and then you naturally expect that you'll get better mesh, or in this case DEM...but in fact you get same result.

BTW QUESTION FOR ALEXEY PASUMANSKY - FOR AGISOFT CLOUD - CAN I SOMEHOW ADD CUSTOM GEOD INTO AGISOFT CLOUD? I TRIED TO PROCESS MY BIG PHOTOGRAMMETRY DATA BUT I NEED TO ADD GEOID FOR CROATIA, IS THAT SOMEHOW POSSIBLE FOR AGISOFT CLOUD?

Hi, jkova96. when I clean the dense cloud and build then a DEM from dense cloud, what I get is what I'd expect: a clean DEM.
