Agisoft Metashape error opening psx project
« on: December 19, 2023, 08:01:15 PM »
Hello
I am not able de open my psx file. The system is telling me « can't open file: The system cannot open file path specified » with the path itself. What am I supposed to do? Here's a print screen to help.

Hello jacobvoyer,

I think you have accidentally put 2023-11-13-14-52-24_ortho.psx file to the 2023-11-13-14-52-24_ortho.files directory. Can you please put the PSX file on the same folder level as the .files directory with the same label and try to re-open the project?

Hi Alexey,
Can we as users somehow modify these psx files, if something goes wrong and we as users may know what part of project is 'broken'?
I have one project and I can't open it at all.
I created them via Agisoft Cloud, I can share a link via cloud cause project is huge.
Issue with that project is - it can open DEM but when I tried to generate mesh from that DEM, then while opening that Mesh RAM goes high - I have 16 GB of RAM and it don't want to open project anymore...
I want to get to the orthomosaic anyway...on the cloud, but now I can't do nothing. It would be nice If I can somehow isolate that problematic mesh, so psx file would load everything that I generated so far, cause...except mesh everything was working fine.

Hello jkova96,

What error is shown in the Console pane when you are trying to open the project?

It is possible to exclude the problematic asset from the project (mesh, DEM, orthomosaic and etc.) by editing doc.xml file in frame.zip archive in the project files folder structure for the corresponding chunk.
The links to the assets are in the very end of the doc.xml file, so it would be sufficient to remove the corresponding lines. doc.xml should be put back to frame.zip archive before re-opening the project.

But you should be cautious editing the project files manually, making a backup for the frame.zip in such case may be reasonable.

Hi Alexey,
Before all being said from me, I just can say thanks for your reply.
Please describe me how should I be in caution with frame.zip?
I don't know if there persist any error - in my case...except I'm unaboe to open project.
It just dont want to open psx file. It just stuck...
Don't know what should say. Look at the picture in attachments.

Hello jkova96,

Please try the suggested steps from another thread here:
- open new Metashape instance,
- go to General Preferences tab and switch the default view from Model to Tie Points, confirm by clicking OK,
- load the problematic project - it should open, as the 200 M poly model will not be automatically opened in the Model view,
- then you can either remove the mesh from the Workspace pane or make it inactive by unchecking Set As Default option in the model context menu.

Note that double-clicking on the model label in the Workspace will load the model to the Model view and will likely cause the same visualization issue.

I'll definitely try to do above described steps.
Maybe not today, cause I'm now in well Christmas mood, or so so...
To be honest.
Thanks for assistance.
Have a nice day and wish you well!!

Hi Alexey,
I use your advice when trying to open project.
It works perfectly.
But still when trying to open problematic mesh, there's still persist problem - it just can't load.
Don't know actually why is this happen.
I know that I had one laser scan mesh, I think that it was over 250 million faces and it opens perfectly on laptop.

Now, I'm on Win 11 PC with much better CPU and GPU. RAM is only faster (16 GB of RAM) and I'm having troubles when loading even lower mesh.

I'm amazed...by this fact.

Don't know but anyway thank you for your help.
Have a nice day !

Hi, jkova96!

There is a bug in 2.0 causing 70% more memory usage for 2.5D models created from DEM. Sorry for that.

Hi vineg,
Eehhhh...maybe problem is exactly in that...
But, I'm not using 2.0.version.
I'm using version 1.8.5.
But you aimed right, cause you described exactly what I've done.
I created mesh from DEM, and yeah it was 2.5D model.
Who knows...maybe this issue persist from version 1.8.5, but
no-one note that earlier...

Why did you apologize? Hahah...
Or if you working for Agisoft, and you admit there's a bug.

Thanks for mentioned this. It's never too late.
Thanks a lot!

Hello jkova96,

You can try to decimate the model to smaller face count, if needed for visualizaton. Or just rebuild with the lower face count number, if the process doesn't take long time.

Hi Alexey,
I just tried to decimate mesh that's it.
By the way do you know why I'm getting error for NOT existing "depth maps" after I delete "depth maps"...cause it uses too much space on Agisoft Cloud...
Okay maybe nothing strange, but, I'm trying to build mesh from dense point xloud?!
Don't know if there's necessary to have "depth maps" while doing "build mesh" from "dense point cloud" on Agisoft Cloud :/
EDIT: After while...because of my PC issues or so...I will attach an image to show you what exactly I got...

Hello jkova96,

Some additional information regarding the issue that you are observing in the latest post is necessary, because on the screenshot there is no info about the project contents.

If you can share the screenshot of the chunk contents for the project that you are working with and the processing log for the failed operation, that will be helpful.

Maybe the processing task parameters are not properly considered in Agisoft Cloud, if you are using version that is different from 2.0.x to send the task to Agisoft Cloud.

Hi dear Alexey,

I don't know but I can't even open now project since I've tried to make an orthomosaic for that particular project.

Now I have other problems like how to download project file when they are massive, I mean 73.81 GB without any option to download "step-by-step" not in once.
You can see my new question on forum: https://www.agisoft.com/forum/index.php?topic=16116.0

There's pretty slow internet connection, at the place where I live and where I'm trying to download, basically all I need is to download orthomosaic and I don't need to have orthophotos cause they, for this particular project, use most of size I think that it's maybe 70% of generated files for orthomosaic generation.

I would like to share any info from my project but right now I can share with you only PDF report "compressed" - inside zip file cause originally PDF report  would took around 4 MB and still max size for sharing with Agisoft Forum is humble 512 kB. You, neither I, can't see what are the parts of mine project cause it's all blank page just when trying to open project - cause it needs to finish all downloads.

I'm still using Agisoft Metashape version 1.8.5. If is that problem, don't know.
I can only tell you that - I deleted depth maps from locally stored psx file before generating mesh. After trying to download mesh I got this/that message: "No cameras with depth maps or Laser Scans in working volume"

I did not mentioned that these orthomosaic generation definitely exceeds Agisoft Cloud storage, I mean so far I was using 50 GB for free, but...after generating orthomosaic I get message on my email that Agisoft Cloud storage is full and for further processing is needed to upgrade cloud storage (something like that I got).
Also, don't know if because of that fact I'm unable to view model on-line...or also modify it too...PICTURE IN ATTACHMENTS

If you want to see detailed project properties I can share with you whole project via Agisoft Cloud invitation link...that's all I can do cause anything else with this network is not possible...I afraid.

Best regards!

J.K.
