Masking what I "do" want instead of what I "don't want"

I just the masks for pretty much everything I scan.  However, it seems backwards to me because I have to select all of the areas that I do *not* want in my final model instead of just what I *do* want.  It's much harder to exclude all of those extra areas in the photos than it is to just find one good reference photo and say "here's the area I want, forget about everything else".

So, it would be great if the Masks feature would allow for this.

Would it be easier for you to mask the area of interest first and then just to invert the mask?

Yes, that is exactly what I do now.  However, since each photo is from a different angle I would have to do that on many different photos in order to be sure that I’ve cut out all of that extra geometry.  It’s like trying to take a scan of a statue in the middle of a park. To isolate just the statue it would be great to just mask the statue. But the way it is now I have to select all of the background areas in all of the different photos from different angles to make sure that I eliminate those.

It would save a lot of time if I could simply select the subject that I want in a single photo rather than selecting what I don’t want in many photos.
