White window frames comes out very blubby
« on: September 01, 2025, 06:09:02 PM »
Hi all, I scanned a whole house (and parts of it) as well with a DSLR and also a drone.

I understand that the glass of the windows and doors is a problem, that's ok for me.
The window borders are (semi)glossy white and comes in distorted in the pointcloud ans eventually the mesh I generated from it.

There is a lot of contrast in the photo's, I take the photo's of the windows and door with stone brichwork as parts of the photo, but still no descent result.

What is the best approach in photographing and also as setting/workflow in Metashape to get a best result?

Thanks in advance!

Hello! I noticed when I make a shiny object more matte (putting cornstarch onto a shiny object to "create" more texture, my models come out a bit smoother. With it being window frames, I am not sure how well cornstarch would work, but I do know there are some washable matte sprays available. I have never used these myself, so some more research is not a bad idea. Here's a link to one I found when googling "matte spray for photogrammetry": 3D scanning developer spray from 3DChimera, Peel 3D has some for a spray powder (store.peel-3d.com). There are more, these are just the first few I saw.
