Circular bands in texture
« on: November 06, 2023, 10:14:50 PM »

hello

I'm doing some test scans of a room and sometimes I see these circular bands appear in the texture. Just now I repeated the 'build texture' step and the bands seem to be gone (see attachments). Luckily I uploaded the 'banded' model to sketchfab so you can still view it:

bands:
https://sketchfab.com/3d-models/corridor-test-312d91081890457db86e7f00c2e02367

no bands:
https://sketchfab.com/3d-models/corridor-test-2-f2a395148dfb4b8e94ec1143547c55f5

At first I thought it had to do with using images with multiple exposures. This resulted in the banded texture. I then used the manual setting on the camera and took all the images with the same settings, then the bands were gone. But as said, I just ran the build texture step again on the images with multiple different exposures (I used a single aperture and automatic exposure time) but now the circles are also gone..

So I was wondering if this could be a bug, or did I forget to change some setting? I used the 'mosaic' setting in the texture dialog in both cases as far as I know.....

thnx!

I have the same problem when I choose Mosaic, in average mode I don't get these lines but I also get other types of lines (check the attachment), which are the edges of each photo due to different exposed areas when I use on-camera flash. I noticed that this bug isn't present in the 1.8.5 version. They seem to appear only on newer versions of metashape.

Aha thnx hmm yes well it is interesting information to know wheter this is a bug or a feature. Because in the latter case i'll have to choose a different way to take the images....

i saw a new pre release version has just been posted, I'll try that one and also will try one of the older verions......

Yes, bug (or feature?) confirmed! I tried 2.1.0 and the banding is still there. But in the older version 1.8.1, the image looks fine. See attachments. I'll post a bug report....

Hello all,

We are planning to implement the fix for the issue (that seems to be caused by the Vulkan driver) in the next update.

Hello all,

If anyone still had those issues (especially, when NVIDIA GPU has been used for texture blending), please check version 2.1.1 and report back, if the problem has been resolved:

Alexey, sorry to copypasting it from another topic, but I think it makes sense to gather all this information in this one:

I think the problem is still here even with 2.1.1 version.
I've tried to run it again with and I see blurred stripes on the texture. I'm attaching screenshot of the same module textured with the same camera with CPU and with GPU.

Driver 555.61.
As a I guess: This driver comes with 12.4, but I have other CUDA versions in my path. Can it be related somehow?

Sorry, wrong report.
For me the latest version 17803 actually solved this problem.
