Ground sampling distance for 3D objects

hi all,
I asked this question in camera calibration group but Iguess this is the correct group...
is ground sampling distance for 'true' 3d objects usefull? is the figure we get on page2 report the average?
  want to get a kind of level of quality that can be compared.

as far as I know, the GSD is calculated using all the tie points and averaging...
