Processing Report - Camera Locations
« on: June 25, 2024, 05:18:33 AM »
Hi,

Could anyone please help me to interpret the processing report for my recent model please?

I used GCPs for my model. When optimizing cameras, I turned all the checkmarks for the images off in the Reference Pane; then run Optimize Cameras with only the checkmarks for the desired GCPs on.

The final DEM and orthomosaic actually look fine. But I have trouble interpreting the Camera Locations in the Processing Report. Please see the attachments.

Why the camera location errors are so huge? The Easting and Northing in the Reference Panel 'View Source' show that the images are at the correct location. Do these huge error affect the quality of the DEM? I use DEMs for volumetric calculations.

My drone is a Phantom 4 Pro V2 and the app I use is Map Pilot Pro.

Many thanks.

Hello szheng,

I think that the following is happening:
cameras have checked on coordinates in the Reference pane, but the values are loaded as degrees in Lat/Long/Alt format, whereas the coordinate system in Reference pane settings is selected as some projected coordinate system (certain UTM zone, for example).

You need either to uncheck all cameras before the optimization, or to apply proper selection of the coordinate systems for chunk, cameras and markers in the Reference pane settings dialog.

Thanks Alex.

It makes sense. The images are in Lat/Lon but the GCPs are in ESPG32755.

I did uncheck all the cameras when doing optimization. I will re-run it by selecting the proper coordinate systems for cameras.

I assumed this huge camera error doesn't affect the accuracy of the final DEM because I use GCPs right?

Hello szheng,

Yes, coordinates of the cameras unchecked in the Reference pane are not used for georeferencing purposes (basically are ignored), so they should not affect the accuracy.

In case you would like to utilize them you either need to convert camera coordinates from WGS84 to ESPG::32755, or go to the Reference pane settings dialog and set coordinate system for chunk and markers to ESPG::32755 and for cameras to EPSG::4326 (WGS84).
