REQ: Building Facade Views and orizzontal/vertical Sections
« on: August 28, 2024, 11:41:20 AM »
I am using version 2.1.2 but I still can't find a simple way to export the orthographic photos of the facades and the horizontal sections of the buildings. Let me explain.
I fly with the drone and create the point cloud and the textured 3D model. The model is not tilted in plan, so I can't create the views directly from the predefined shooting points but I have to insert 3 markers and use these to generate the orthophoto of the facade. I set the first marker which will have, for example, X, Y, Z coordinates respectively (0.00, 0.00, 0.00). The second marker is that of the horizontal axis and by positioning it on the model it will have, for example, coordinates (5.00, 1.00, 0.02). The third marker will instead have, for example, coordinates (0.01, -0.02, 10.00). When I use these coordinates Metashape generates the orthographic photo of the crooked facade because the horizontal axis is not horizontal (the Z coordinate of the second marker should be 0.00 like that of the first marker, just as the X and Y coordinates of the third marker should be the same as those of the first because the axis must be perfectly vertical). I believe that a function is missing where you can set a "facade plane": from the model I set a first origin point of the plane, then a second point on the same plane of the facade, and at this point Metashape sets it with the same Z assigned to the first. The third point can be generated automatically because the "facade plane" must be perfectly vertical, so it can be identical to the first but with a different Z value. So we have enough elements to create the "facade plane 1" and it could be selected in the generation of the orthographic photo, just as you select the predefined views or the method with the markers.

It then happens that I combine a georeferenced point cloud from LaserScanner with the survey with the drone. I understood how to extract the vertical sections, but I don't think there is a way to do the same thing horizontally. If I wanted to extract the points present at a certain Z value from the cloud, I have no way to do it, except by manually resizing the box. A "HORIZONTAL SECTION" function would be useful, where I set the height at which to make the section, the thickness of the slice of cloud to consider and export the extracted points as DXF or Image. You could also add the depth of the section (for example, height 1.50 m and depth 1.60 m downwards) and be able to generate the orthophoto from the point cloud (Register360 works this way).
