Can internal memory cache be adjusted in Metashape?
« on: October 16, 2024, 10:48:20 PM »
Hi,

I am attempting to generate a mosaic using 2300 TIFs, totalling about 4 TB in size. I have run into various types of memory errors for this particular dataset, but for now I want to explicitly ask about the "Not enough memory" error.

This error occurs 1300 seconds into generating the orthomosaic.

I am running this operation on a computer with 191GB of RAM. The video card is an NVIDIA RTX A2000 with 12GB of VRAM. I have made certain that the box is checked to use the CPU when performing GPU accelerated processing. Upon inspecting the system logs, I see no evidence that this computer lacks the resources to generate the mosaic in question. I have tried generating the mosaic on another computer with slightly lower specs and got a different type of memory error. That one failed 13 hours into the operation.

My thought is that the error has something to do with an internal memory cache within Metashape itself. Could this be the cause of my problem? I am attaching the log file for reference, though it doesn't seem to say anything useful.

I am using Agisoft Metashape Professional version 1.7.4 build 13028 (64 bit).

Thanks

Olihar,

We use the version that we do because up until this point it has worked without any serious problems. Updating software in a large organization is always a risk because it can break things down the production pipeline when tools change. There are several teams who handle the data after me who would be impacted. We will update if we think it would solve this memory issue, but it is not our go-to solution.Especially if we don’t know that it would solve the original problem.

I would prefer to figure out why this problem had suddenly started occurring. I’ve run plenty of projects prior to this one, some of which were of comparable size. So I’m trying to figure out why things have started to break where they previously worked just fine.

Thanks

You are looking for support and I suggest you update to new version, its free.

Hard to get support for software many years old.
