Hawaiian state plane coodinate conversion issue
« on: November 10, 2024, 04:27:27 PM »
Has anyone in here done work in Hawaii? I have a control file that I am trying to bring into Metashape but it is causing some major conversion issues. Im trying to work with spc nad83 HI Zone 2 PA11.  When I set the project to epsg 6629 it tells me "unsupported datum transformation".  Ive been using Metashape for a few years now, and this is the first time Ive seen this error. I cant figure out how to get past it. Images are captured in wgs84.  Ive never had an issue converting a project to the marker's coordinate system before.

Another thing I have noticed is that epsg 6629 is not a choice under the conversion button, but if you go to the reference settings and search for it there, it shows up.

Hello dsmapping,

Transformation between coordinate systems in Metashape is possible when either both systems are on the same datum, or both systems have TOWGS84 parameters available.

It seems that EPSG::6629 does not have ToWGS84 transformation parameters, that is why you are getting the problem.
But if you are mixing several coordinate systems in the project (WGS84 for images and EPSG::6629 for markers), you can input custom parameters via Reference pane settings dialog -> Datum Transformation Settings window.

Hi dsmapping.

actually you can get transformation parameters from ITRF14 datum (WGS84) to NAD83(PA11) from NGS web site.

The 7 parameter transformation from NAD83(PA11) to WGS84 or ITRF14 would be

   TOWGS84
Epoch   TX(m)   TY(m)   TZ(m)   RX(as)   RY(as)   RZ(as)   DS(ppm)
2010   -0.9109   2.0129   0.5863   0.022749   0.02656   -0.025706   -0.00212
2024.8   -0.91238   2.01142   0.61442   0.0170658   0.0414636   -0.0580588   -0.001054252

as you see these parameters are changing according to date or epoch your points were measured. First line at epoch 2010 and second at epoch 2024.8 or around some date in October 2024.

You can enter these parameters using tools button in reference settings pane  as from attached screen capture.

I do photogrammetry in Hawai'i and gave up on using PA11 stateplane. Instead I convert GCPs to WGS84 and do everything in that coordinate system. You can always convert the orthomosaic to PA11
