Ortho view (2D)
« on: November 26, 2024, 08:26:09 PM »
Hi, it would be nice to have option to seperate windows to 2D ortho view (for orthomosaics and DEM rasters) and 3D model view (for point clouds and 3d models). We have many projects where 2D ortho view would be enough to share and analyze data.

Hello, and thank you for your feedback!

Could you please clarify the advantages of having separate 2D viewer for the DEM and Orthomosaic? Also, what do you find problematic with the 3D viewer, since it allows you to upload and view both raster maps and elevation models?
Best regards,

I mainly do surveying and mapping job and in my personal experience there is a value in simplification of our data to the clients. This affects not only the products we create but also the tools we provide them to use the data. For example, I do a lot of construction mapping to gather spatial information about the site, in particular classified point clouds and orthomosaics, but I can clearly divide the customers to two groups: proffesionals who use my data into CAD envicoment to create analysis, cross section etc. but they do have they own software to do that. On the other hand, there is a second group of engineers who would like to simply review the orthomosaics with the CAD layers in the background but they do not have proper software, probably they are not very willing to learn new software and advanced tools, and there is a great space for online geoportals just like Agisoft Cloud to fill this gap. I do belive that enabling Cloud viewer to 2D ortho view would be a great optimization to this group of customers, providing them simply tools to quick analyze of data.

Edit: I forgot to mention that currently I do have mixed feelings about the navigation tools in the 3D model view - lack of tools to reset the top view, aling the view to north etc. First thing came to my mind was the 2D ortho view and that was the reason I suggested it.

Thank you for the detailed description of your use cases and needs.

Just to clarify, do you think a viewer with the map always oriented to the north (without the option to rotate) would work for this group of users? You can try a working example of a viewer with the map always oriented north by visiting this link: 2D Viewer Example .

Additionally, we want to let you know that several improvements for navigation in a model view are on the way, and they will be released in the coming months.

Well, I see that this example is more like 3D object forced to be viewed from the top. Can you overlay it with raster data and 2D vector data and adjust overlay and transparency? If not, I would suggest to make separate window for ortho view just like in Metashape.

Thank you for your feedback.

In this mode, you will be able to overlay vector layers on raster maps and control the transparency of the raster maps. Additionally, this view is a 2D projection of a 3D map, so the user will also have the option to view 3D models and point clouds if needed.

Does this setup work for you? Would this approach meet your needs, or would you prefer a different view option?

This should be fine I guess.
Can we expect this feature in upcoming updates?

Thank you for your feedback.

We find this feature to be a reasonable improvement for a particular group of users and will consider adding it in a future update. However, there’s no timeline we can share yet.
