Point cloud: LAS Export rounds all points to the centimetre
« on: January 10, 2025, 12:00:50 PM »
I work with Agisoft Metashape v2.1.3 (Build 18946) and use the coordinate system CH1903+ (LV95/LN02). The working units are metres. When I export the dense point cloud as LAS, all points are rounded to the centimetre. However, when exporting the point cloud as E57, all decimal places are transferred correctly.

Is there a way to set the number of decimal places for the LAS export, or is this behaviour intentional?

Hello Kueni,

When export to LAS is used, the coordinate precision of the point cloud is considered to export only meaningful decimal digits. If you update to 2.1.4 version you should see Coordinate Precision value in the Show Info dialog for the point cloud.

Precision of the point cloud generated in Metashape is based on the GSD and the depth maps quality used.

Hello Alexey,

Thank you for the detailed response. Would it still be possible to add an option to adjust the number of decimal places for LAS export in a future version of Agisoft?

My point cloud is calculated in Agisoft with millimeter precision, but it is only exported with centimeter accuracy. When I create a cross-section over a road, the result appears "stepped." With millimeter precision (E57 export), the result looks much "smoother."

Hello Kueni,

Maybe you can share an example of such project to support@agisoft.com that we can use to export LAS and E57 and compare them?

Hello Alexey,

I will send an example project to the support email address.

I have now installed the latest version of Agisoft (v2.2.0), but I am encountering the following error message whenever I try to execute a step in the workflow menu:
"SQLite error: Can't open database (14): unable to open database file"

I found out that the issue occurs when the file path contains special characters like ä, ü, or ö. Once these characters are replaced, Agisoft works correctly again. However, in the previous version of Agisoft, using special characters in the path didn’t cause any problems. Maybe you could take a look at this to check if it’s a bug.

Thank you in advance!

Hello Kueni,

This issue will be fixed in the next 2.2 hot-fix update. The error occurs if the path to the project contains non-standard symbols, but only when "save project after each step" option is enabled in processing dialog.
