Marker detection in standard
(1/1)
PLAN8:
Firstly, I realise that this request is purely a giveaway for you guys, but hear me out, I do think that marker detection and scaling should be part of the standard edition by default.
Whilst $300+ seems a reasonable price for such a fine piece of software, the fundamentals of photogrammetric scanning and model creation rely on accuracy and correct scale etc. almost all free photogrammetry tools allow the ability to recognise and use markers to improve accuracy and scale.
Limiting markers to the pro version makes sense for a carrot and stick approach, but the result is the average user who does not need dems, lidar and all the other amazing options in the pro version is severely restricted in accuracy and quality of the photogrammetry output, which to me seems like a counterintuitive restriction.
Obviously it’s your guys call, but I do think basic accuracy tools should be part of both paid for versions as a default.
Put another way, I can’t justify paying the big financial hike to the pro version, just to be able to scale and transform my photogrammetry model more accurately.

I think at least for Chunk Alignment it should be available.
I didn't really look into Markers yet. I saw professionals using different amounts. I guess the minimum is 3.
So, why not make a maximum of 3 - 4 Markers available in standard version?
Reco:
There should be at least four markers. I have problem aligning drone photos with images taken using ordinary cameras. It must be possible to include that option without giving away more advanced features.

Yeah, some form of marker detection for simple alignments would be quite useful. I can't justify upgrading to Pro for just marker detection so I don't use Metashape on projects that require markers and end up using an alternative (like RealityCapture which offers it in their free tier).
