Align imported point cloud file
« on: September 13, 2024, 06:40:59 PM »
I am looking for a way to align an imported point cloud in Agisoft to control. I often have to combine some datasets together (photogrammetry, SLAM, etc.), and hoping to do this in Agisoft if possible.

I have control points that overlap the point cloud but not sure if it is possible to align to them (as I haven't found a way to do it yet).

Hi,

Does this document help? https://agisoft.freshdesk.com/support/solutions/articles/31000168474

I know it is talking about Laser Scans. But near the end of the document, it talks about aligning, could you use the same method for point clouds?

Cheers
Ben

Thanks for the suggestion Ben, but no this doesn't help in this case that it alignment method is for terrestrial scans to align together (cloud to cloud).

Has anyone figured this out? This seems like it should be a pretty basic function to do within Metashape. I cant find any documentation on this anywhere. There is some stuff about aligning laser scans but I havent found anything that mentions aligning imported point clouds to control. Im thinking the best way to do this would be to translate the point cloud in Global Mapper first and then import it into Metashape. It would be really nice if you could just align the imported point cloud to control inside Metashape though.

Hello dsmapping,

Have you figured out how to georeference laser scan point clouds in Metashape using Place Marker command in Model view?

Hi Alexey. So on my end, I have tried to georeferencing with markers on an imported point cloud (an unstructured point cloud in my case), but it doesn't georeference correctly from all I have tried. My residuals end up being much larger than they should be (and have validated it in other software), and I have no way to see after the fact in Metashape what the parameters of the transformation where to validate.

I am assuming it should do a 7 parameter transformation when doing this, but it doesn't seem to be as I am not sure it is applying a scale to the transform (which is should in many cases).

I actually have an open support ticket with you guys as well that I haven't received a response back in for well over a month now (Ticket 210358).

Would appreciate a reply when possible.
