Weird problems with texture (with pictures!)
« on: April 02, 2025, 04:56:58 PM »
Hello

I made just a quick scan last year by my cheap old smartphone - Xioami Redmi 7A. Of some debris from a building renovation i went by by a chance. I loaded it into metashape, did high quality mesh from depthmaps and did texture (generic, mosaic, 8192*8192 px resolution), BUT (!). The texture came all "weirdy" and "ugly"... Didnt happened to me ever before i think... If i remember correctly ( i did the processing months ago and just today im asking about the problem :-) ).I THINK i tried it all - different blending methods, resolution, did the mesh again (this time from dense point cloud (i  think)). I simply played around and tried different things (not probably all possibilities but many), yet it still comes out looking this ugly everytime... WTF...? Anybody any idea whats behind this and how to fix this problem...?

Hello JohnyJoe,

Looks somewhat like the NVIDIA driver issue reported some months ago. There are three major solutions to the problem, if it is the case:
1. Use only CPU for the texture blending (do not use NVIDIA GPU),
2. Roll-back NVIDIA driver to 560.xx, 561.xx version (not higher) to use GPU for texturing.
3. (recommended) Update Metashape version to 2.1.4 or 2.2.x version.

You can quick check by rebuilding the texture with GPU disabled in Metashape Preferences and if the generated texture is correct, then follow either approach.

Thanks, i disabled GPU and now it renders correctly (without using GPUs)... WEIRD... i did (few) other scans with my mobile and they work correctly even with the GPU on... only this one makes problems for some reason :-(....
