Orthomosaic Reconstruction Failed for Narrow Area
« on: May 15, 2025, 12:49:48 AM »
Hello,

I conducted multiple drone flights for two fields. I did the following settings:

1. Entire field (around 6 ha), 30 meters and 50 meters above the ground, respectively
2. Three experimental rows (around 5 meters wide, 300 meters long), 10 meters and 15 meters above the ground.

Everything is fine with the first group, while all from the second group failed with exactly the same settings. The tie points, DEM and even dense point cloud seems fine but when I tried to reconstruct from DEM, I got "empty orthomosaic" error. And when I reconstruct from dense point cloud, I got orthomasics but every band (R, G, B, NIR, RE) is noisy and fuzzy.

Is it possible that this is caused by narrow flight area?

Are you sure the bands are aligned correctly.

Thank you for your reply. Yes, it seems the bands were mismatched. Each single band is blurry and incorrect as well.

The order I conducted these flights on the same day was like this:

Field A: 15m -> 10m -> 5m -> (1 hour break) -> 50m -> Field B:  50m -> 30m -> 5m

Since the green ones here were fine, it seems the cameras on the drone are still matched and calibrated (we used this drone last year for such low altitude flights but this never happened)

I think you need to fix calibration first.

Thank you. Will consult DJI for the calibration.

Can you share the dataset?
