Aligning orthmosaic projection on markers in python

I am very much enjoying the "define a projection plane and the (horizontal|vertical) axis with markers" functionality in the Export Orthomosaic dialog (available with the Planar option selected) as shown here
https://agisoft.freshdesk.com/support/solutions/articles/31000154049-orthomosaic-generation-planar-projection-#Method-2%3A-Markers
How might I get the same functionality using a python script?

Hi envcons,
this functionality can certainly be scripted. Please send me a PM for more details...
