Export photo with alpha channel
« on: October 13, 2025, 05:08:55 AM »
It would be good if Metashape exported the original image with a true alpha channel. In my case I generated mask in Metashape from a model. I would like to touch up the alpha in Photoshop. When I export mask from Metashape with the option "Image with alpha channel" it creates the image as a layer with a no-data area where the mask was instead of exporting the whole image with a true alpha channel.

It would be good if under Layers it was Background.

and under Channels it was:
RGB
Red
Green
Blue
Alpha

Hello bisenberger,

What image format you are using to export image with alpha from Metashape?

Hi Alexey,

TIF format.
I don't see any options for file format other than changing the extension in the file name,  {filename}_mask.tif.

The original imported photos are 24 bit TIF without an alpha channel.

This is the image exported from Metashape Pro with File type: Image and alpha channel, Filename template: {filename}_mask.TIFF

Here is the exported image in Photoshop:

This is how I would like it to be:

Hello bisenberger,

If you load to Metashape the image that has been exported in TIF format with alpha - do you properly see all bands as in original image?

Hi Alexy,
I found information on a forum about how to turn the transparency in a 32 bit image into a layer mask. Thanks for your help, and ignore the feature request, you already have it  :).

You can shut off the layer mask to see the image. The image mask can easily be saved as a channel alpha.

Thanks Alexy!
