ad allocation error during split big charts
« on: October 13, 2025, 06:36:56 AM »
Hello, I keep getting a "bad allocation error" when generating textures with 2.2.2. I've tried several x2 x4 sizes and have already scaled down the model. Nothing helps; the error always appears in the same place, with "split big charts."

My model has multiple cameras, a total of approximately 50,000 images with 37,000 masks, approximately 10 laser scans, and it was calculated in 15x15 meter blocks. Now I want to calculate the textures (without laser scans) for the individual blocks, but the error is preventing me from doing so. If I click Cancel after the error occurs, I get the message (insufficient memory), but all the memory (RAM, GPU, hard disk) is fine and has enough space.

As always, the model has to be finished at some point, and I would be very grateful for a timely solution.

Thanks very much
Dieter

Hello Dieter,

If you are using Natural texturing, please try the latest 2.3.0 pre-release (updated last weekend). In case the error persists in that version as well, please share the full log from 2.3.0 pre-release.

In version 2.2.3, I always get a total crash when creating the texture.

I've sent you the two crash reports.

After I restart the project, it runs through and creates the texture. Unfortunately, the texture isn't displayed on the screen; the console displays ERROR: Incorrect data type (6881312).

Restarting Metashape clears this error message, and the texture appears on the screen.

Another Question:
Many files named Modelxx.tmp or Texturexx.tmp are saved in the project folder and remain there permanently. Deleting temporary files with Metashape does not delete these files. Are these files still needed once the texture process/model creation is complete?
