Difference in volume between two surfaces?
« on: October 23, 2025, 01:33:20 AM »
Using a point cloud and a tiled model, I created two separate DEM surfaces. I opened these two surfaces in 3dSurvey. I calculated the volume using the same boundaries on both DEM surfaces. The results differed by approximately 1000 m3. My question to you is: Which DEM surface created with data better reflects reality? The one created with a point cloud or the tiled model?

Hello harun,

You can calculate the difference DEM in Metashape and check the areas where the difference is considerable in order to understand, what causes such difference.

Without seeing the project, processing parameters and generated assets it is not possible to say what approach gives more accurate result and is closer to reality.
