Gold reflectivity, Chunk Alignment Issues
« on: November 27, 2025, 02:15:47 PM »
I am trying to model ancient gold coins. I can make models of ancient silver and bronze coins and many other things but I really struggle with making models of gold objects. I have explored various polarizing filter, IR cut filters, etc with some success but I am still having problems. I cant get a dataset with two chunks that each contain one turntable rotation of coin imagery to align with another chunk of a different rotation of the same object. These data sets will not align when in the same chunk but can align in individual chunks. Oddly, the rotations align better when they are not masked and are aligned with "exclude stationary tie points" selected.

I know this is a complex question, I would appreciate any input from the community.

I had the same Problem. Solution was:

1. Polarization Filters on both - Objective an Lightsource. You got to bring the Polarization Filters in the right angle to eliminate the highlights/reflexions.

2. laying down pieces of structural clothes as a Marker. See attached Photo (You see another Objekt but same principle). You need one piece of (different) clothes/merker for the x, y and z plane. So Metashape can align the Pictures.

Sorry, can not explain it better :)
