Why the 3DImage does not appear in the center of the program?
« on: December 09, 2013, 05:54:07 PM »
Hello Every One

I?m new with photoScan standard edition and I have somre problems to deal with. Wondering if you could help me with them, thanks.

1) The result 3d Image does not appear in the middle of the program, over the ballon, but more to the left (or right), so movieng it in 360 wont be easy, nor zoomin it, coz it get out of the sight and screen, so I have to zoom out it and make it small to be able to see it!!! Does it have anything to to do with the angel of taking photos?

2) Is there any number to be concider as the efficent number of photos for making a 3dImage?

Hello AcademiaBA,

1) You can move the model in the Model view frame holding right-mouse button.

2) The number of images required for successful reconstruction depends on the object size and complexity. But anyway good overlap should be provided and the whole surface of the object being reconstructed should be covered. What is common type of the objects you are reconstructing with PhotoScan?
Best regards,

If you switch to orthographic mode (press '5') the viewport is a bit easier to navigate.

Alexey and Marcel, Thank you so much for your reply! They really helpd me and solved one of my big problems in navigating  :D

Alexey, at the moment I use PhotoScan more to scanning Plaster Sculptures and Busts in differente sizes that in 99% of cases are totally white! In realtion with that, I have some doubts:

1) For busts and sculpture more smaller, I use turnetable. As I normally need to shoot the object from different positions (bottom, front, up) and tripod does not reach so high or cant be fiexd so low, I carry the camera in my hand, not on a tripod. Does it affect so much in the final result or it?s ok with the software?

2) In the same case (above exp. ), for some parts of sculptures which are more elaborated and have more details or are well hidden, I take 2,3 more continued photos (single photos) with more zoom, is it Ok, or on the contrary, it woul have bad effect on the result model? Another question in relation with that, although the background was static, but at this case as now I?m moving to capture the details of sculpture, the background will change. If I wanna use the option "mask from a background " with my photo without the presence of object, who the program deals with it?

Totally, what do you recommand me in this case?

3)  I remember in one of my experience, although I have good quality photos (without mask), the result wasnot so accurate and precise. So in the next try, I mask just some of the photos, not all of them (masking also were a little sloppy!), the result in this time was with more details and more precise, but also have been created some mass and bulk around the photo where there were anything. Was it for if I mask a photo, I have go through all of them, or was it for another reason?

I have more questions, but better leave them for another occasion and let you breath a little  :P  In advance, thank you so much Alexey or whoever are going to help me !

Ah, just another more question and I?ll be shut up for a while  8)

4) In more cases, the Sculture does not move, and I am going to turn around 360? and taking photos. In this case, as the background is not static, logically I cant take a photo of background without object for creating maks (from background). for masking, Do i have go through all photos, one by one and mask them???!!

Kisses!
