i7 4820K or Dual Xeon E5-2630 v2 or Xeon E5-1650 v2 ?
« on: December 11, 2013, 02:12:31 PM »
Hello

As I read from this forum, ghz is more important for Photoscan.

And most users got better performance with i7 high ghz instead of lower ghz Xeon.

I understood that. But my question is, what about dual Xeon?

I am about to buy Dell T5610 Workstation which has Dual Xeon 2630 2.6 ghz six core 15mb.

At this link these CPUs are almost same. But yes, because of high Clock speed, I guess i7 will give better performance.

But what about dual CPU? even if I work with dual 2630 2.6 ghz ( total 5.2 ghz), is high ghzed i7 still faster than Xeon?

if i7 is still faster, then What do you think about Xeon E5-1650 v2 processor?
it is single CPU, and higher ghz than 2630.

I am asking this, because i have to buy a workstation, because they have high Memory capacity. And workstations does not offer i7 CPUs.

Thank you for your helps.

Hello oxiabit,

From the given configurations we recommend to choose E5-1650 v2 is 3.5 ghz. (E5-1660 v2 will be even better and optimal from the available choices, as it is similar to recommended desktop i7 4960X CPU).
Also one-socket configuration will allow to avoid possible two-socket configuration problems mentioned in the following thread: http://www.agisoft.ru/forum/index.php?topic=1330.0

Hi Alexey,

I am not sure , could do with some help here..
Currently i7 4930K CPU does my thing but need to get another one.
Which CPU would you recommend?

FUJITSU CELSIUS M730    Approx. 1500 USD system it is almost the same cpu power with my 4930K
Xeon E5-1620v2 3.70GHz 10MB

FUJITSU CELSIUS R920    Approx. 3900 USD system
2x Xeon E5-2650 2.0GHz 20MB Turbo Boost

Do you have another config idea for nowadays specs ?

Hello Exhale,

I think that  the first configuration is much better due to higher CPU frequency. However, you can consider single Xeon with similar frequency but with 6-8 CPU cores for faster processing.

Dear Exhale,

We have for example a i7 3930K with a clock speed of 4.2GHz(slightly overclocked) and the CPU is running ...(temperature is under 70°C) The performance is like a mid range Xeon but costs only ~550€. On disadvantage is the ram limitation of 64GB ram. If you don't need more than 64GB ram for your processing than the 3930K,4930K,5930K is maybe an alternative for you.
