Some tips for building new machine.
« on: December 13, 2013, 07:16:09 PM »
Hello, i am considering a machine for professional use with PhotoScan. I am doing aerial imaging, 3D-modeling of terrain and orthophoto with UAV.

Here is the machine i am considering to configure. Thing is i am new at this, and i would like to hear or read expert opinions, tips... :

GPU:  GeForce GTX770 Gigabyte OC 4GB/DDR5
http://www.winwin.rs/graficka-kartica-geforce-gtx770-gigabyte-oc-4gb-ddr5-dvi-hdmi-dp-256bit-gv-n770oc-4gd-1177452.html

MB:    LGA1150 Z87 ASUS Z87-PRO
http://www.winwin.rs/racunari-i-komponente/racunarske-komponente/maticne-ploce/maticna-ploca-mb-lga1150-z87-asus-z87-pro-pcie-ddr3-sata3-glan-7-1-1173129.html

CPU:   Intel CPU LGA1150 Intel® Core™ i7-4770, 3.40GHz BOX 22nm
http://www.winwin.rs/procesori-intel-cpu-lga1150-intelr-coretm-i7-4770-3-40ghz-box-22nm-1173420.html

RAM:   DIMM DDR3 8GB 1600MHz Kingston CL10, KHX1600C10D3B1/8G
http://www.winwin.rs/memorija-dimm-ddr3-8gb-1600mhz-kingston-cl10-khx1600c10d3b1-8g-1157162.html (x2, 16GB total)

+ everything else of course :)

I know this would be weaker then specified on website, but how much weaker? Will it still do any good?

This machine is already over my budget, but i think i will manage and stay alive when i buy this.

What would you change, add, take out...? Even if prices go higher up to 2000e. This one with everything else is 1500-1600e.

Any help, tips, suggestions are highly appreciated.

This is a nice computer, but you need to get more RAM. the the the better.

also, this CPU (4770) is quite nice, but the 4770K is unlocked and will overclock much better as well.

If I were you, I wouldn't go for the config that you wrote
As overclock was mentioned,  1600mhz RAD is insufficient,  get higher frequency RAM.

    Check this out,
    • INTEL i7 4930K 3.4 GHz Socket 2011 12MB 6 core
    • ASUS RAMPAGE IV EXTREME, X79, DDR3, 5x PCIExp, Socket 2011, CrossFireX & SLI    (it has 8 DIMMS instead of 4 ordinary DIMMS)
    • KINGSTON 16 GB DDR3 2133 MHZ CL11 XMP PREDATOR (KHX21C11T2K2/16X)
    • SAPPHIRE or another vendor HD7970 3 GB, PCIExp DDR5, 384 bit, 950/5700 Mhz

of course, it maybe more than your budget,  but at least go for HD7970, i believe 7970 is good for PS also it must be slighty cheaper than gtx770 also with similar performance..

By the way, be careful about power supply,  choose 80 Plus gold or higher certificated one.. ;)
