Zbrush - Workflow
« on: December 20, 2013, 03:10:06 PM »
Ive read many workflows on how to use Zbrush, however despite my own tries i havent been able to fully complete it...

This may be offtopic to Agisoft however it is related to the data i get off agisoft.

- My main problem comes when Remeshing, the results are not very good:

1. Mesh looses a good amount of detail even setting target polygons count to 100
2. Some artifacts appear on the mesh

- UV Master simply doesnt work after this process, either it gives me a "error ocurred" or when i flatten the UVs nothing appears or some "artifacty" results

Is anyone experiencing something similar ?
Any tips ?

Hello Mfranquelo!

Try this:
1. Load the PS-mesh into ZBrush
2. Clone it (and decimate the clone down to ~100000 polys for much faster ZRemeshing!)
3. ZRemesh that clone with a maximum of 15000 polys (because of the next step:)
4. Click on a ZSphere
5. Choose the uncloned high-detailed PS-mesh for "Rigging"
6. Choose the ZRemeshed low-poly mesh as a topology (and you have to move one vertex in order that ZBrush will work correctly - sometimes you have to tweak it imho)
7. Turn on "Projection" (and sometimes you have to tweak the default settings)
8. Preview an "Adaptive Skin" by choosing the desired density for the object (mostly 3-6)
9. "Make Adaptive Skin"
10. Use "UV Master" to create a perfect UV (on the lowest SDiv-level)
11. "Copy" that UV and "Paste" it to the highly-detailed adaptive skin
12. Export this UV-mapped 3D-object as .obj in the highest settings SDiv-level (On objects with more multi-million polys it is good to decimate that before; dont forget to turn on "Keep UVs" in "Decimation Master")
13. Load the exported 3D-object into the original PS-chunk
14. "Build Texture"
15. Ready!

There are still some other ways to do the same thing...

try doigg intro Zbrush deeper, its not a easy to find GOOD workflow. even if i know how to do it is some trial error for weeks/months to get it right  :-D

Good Zbrushing.....

@Tenzen, too much work and not the best workflow  8)

for fullbody, thats a "clean" im need approx 2-3 hours to make it 3D print ready. if the model is complicated it can take up to 24+ hours of work......

Thank you both, i?ll try that workflow  :)

These are the artifacts / errors im getting when remeshing after using Decimation Master.

@Mfranquelo:
Weird - never saw something like this while using "Decimation Master". A few days ago I used "Decimation Master" and decimated the model down to 1%,10% and 20% - no fails. Did you turn on "Double"(sided)? Maybe its a problem within the normals?

@Wishgranter:
Yeah - not the fastest way but one of the cleaniest.

hmmmmmm  >:(     ;D

1. Import OBJ
2. soft cleaning and smoothing, closing holes
3. Dynamesh
4. deeper cleaning of mesh, removing noise, blobs etc. 2-24 hours
5. duplicate
6. decimate to 50-70k
7. Zremesher
8. UVmaps
9. divide and projecting details
10. 3D export, web export

cofee and cigarette :-D

1- smoking kills. :)
2- perhaps, you may add more cameras ?
I don't think editing should take more than 20min for 3d print.. Am I wrong? it seems something is wrong. Cos with Zbrush you are giving so much detail. Okay it will look good on your pc. However the printer can't print this details especially for small models.

1. yes thats ueber galaxy skill :-D not every one searching here for help have this mastery and need to know this info......
2. we have 115

i think k you have no experience with 3D Print ?? depend on quality of what you need to achieve, we are able print even smallest details on 15 cm statue ( displacement details ). Not to say about that we print out 1:3 prints and preparing for 1:1 3D prints.... so you need properly cleaned, detailed model, depend on many thing.......

P.S. can write your workflow ???????? so we can learn for good-like person YOU ?!?

I mean, in 15cm details it will be very small and every detail can't be noticeable where as your printer can do layer thickness 0.1mm.  What is your printer? isn't it 660 pro?  I may be wrong, I'm not playing devil's advocate. So, just easy :)  I'm gaining exp. from you guys.
Thanks.

Hi Wishgranter,

I was mentioning about details, and I found an example link.  Can you please have a look at this link and let me know what you think. https://sketchfab.com/thewattsworks/views

As you can see, all the details are flattened especially on the face. I am not saying those guys are doing a very good thing, but their Zbrush editing probably takes 20min :), doesn't it?

Thanks.

Wishgranter Thank you, ive just tried your worflow and it works for me  :D

I still dont know how to keep the same number of polygons when remeshing although, even tho i click on "same" polygon count, i can still see a big decimation... It will get back to the zr doc for zremesh...

May i ask you how are you reprojecting details ? are you using high pass filter and displacement ?

Tezen  This happened when using zremesher, not decimation master :( I did check "Check mesh integrity" before every step to check if everything was OK. Also i feel like zremesher wipes too many details from my model.. it will be matter of taking time to configure it properly..  :)

Thanks!

Mfranquelo,

if you choose "same", you need to turn off "adaptive" in Zremesher options, that will keep same polygons.
