What are Model Generating P1 and P2?
« on: July 25, 2010, 07:20:21 PM »
In the preferences, on the advanced panel, there are parameters for P1 and P2. What are these and what aspects of processing do their values control? How should users think about changing these values to improve processing? I checked through the manual and online documentation and did not see any mention of these parameters. Any guidance on the informed use of these parameters would be appreciated.

Regards,
Nathan

Hello, Nathan,

These parameters control the smoothness property of underlying stereo algorithms (depth map generation stage). The greater values produce more smooth surfaces, while the smaller values produce more noisy, but in some cases more accurate surface reconstruction.

The values for these parameters should be less then 2048, and the P2 value should be greater than P1.

Please note, that mesh generation stage adds some smoothness constraints, so the changes in these parameters will not necessarily affect the smoothness of the results, but will more likely affect the stability of the reconstruction.

I don't recommend changing P1 and P2 parameters, as they are preset to the optimal values according to our tests.
