Best IPAD app for 3d model viewing?
« on: January 30, 2014, 02:06:41 AM »
I am looking to load my .obj models of full body scans to my IPAD and have found that meshlab works technically, but the aesthetics are fairly poor and not something I would like to show other people.  Are there any recommended apps for ipads for 3d model viewing?  Thanks!

I haven't found anything better than MeshLab. Their control interface is nice and simple; and performance generally isn't too bad (aside from some crashes). I just wish they would allow an option for flat shading (which would make scans look far better), but they don't seem too interested in updating the app.

So far I haven't found anything really great on either iOS or Android, all of them fall short one way or another.  You could also use an Android tablet to browse WebGL enabled sites like Sketchfab. iOS does not support it currently in web browsers, unfortunately.

I'd love to hear if you find something, though. Cheers, -Chad

You can try Simlab ... I don't know if its the best ipad app for 3d viewing, but it is an option.

The viewer is free and there are ipad and android versions.

You need the Simlab app (Windows or Mac) to generate the file for the viewer, its very reasonably priced and there is a trial available.

Thanks for the tip, Chris...just wish it were a bit less than what they are asking, ah well.

This is another one I've looked at on Android, and they also have an iOS version...I just don't really like the design of the app and it seems like it takes too much work to get models into it compared to Meshlab.

You can try this iPad APP that permits you to see your models in interactive 3D Virtual Views and also in Augmented reality with or without markers.

It looks like there is a new free FBX format viewer from Autodesk for iOS and Android...not sure how hard you can push it.
