Compare insight3d, PythonPhotogrammetry, VisualSFM
« on: April 02, 2014, 11:49:26 PM »
By the way have anyone used above softwares?

So-far I'm getting great results using Photoscan demo, (even from a video, converted to video stills).

160 pounds is alot of money. Need to do more research in Photogrammetry.

160 pounds a re "nothing" because Photoscann, can do photogrammetry with the east way. that mean easy and clean workflow, good results, and all this just from beginning. See our results and comments, a lot of people has tested other solutions but most of them use AGI now....... its good to have knowlege of other solutions too, but in this case its the best invested money in software....

:o

The return you can get from commercial work using Photoscan, means it's worth its weight in gold.

Incredible piece of software, cloud free!!

WoW!

Thanks for your comments. I have notice large number of positive feedback about this product from this forum.

I am looking into printing models using a 3D printer, and maybe sell the model.  insight3d, PythonPhotogrammetry,  VisualSFM, seems to have license restrictions.

What about upgrades. Do we have pay for new upgrades or do we get limited free upgrades?

When I got my license I understood it allowed me to receive updates up to version 1.9 but don't know where I saw that

Hi fhalo

I've used VisualSFM for quite a while. I don't know PPT and I've tested Agisoft for a couple of days now. All I can say is, that the results from AGI are way beter than from VisualSFM.

Spots wich weren't covered in 3 or more photos, VisualSFM had problems with creating points. But I was really amazed with the results from AGI! Much cleaner dense point clouds, better surface reconstruction (even with less photos!) and a nice and clean texture.

Unfortunately I can't post any results, because I've used Demo mode. But to answer your question in a short way:

Photoscan is not cheap, but for a company it's defenetly worth its weight in gold!
Since we discovered AGI, we never used VisualSFM again, really! (P.S.: I don't work for AGI ;-)

We will order a license for Photoscan Pro this weekend. VisualSFM is useless now, so i allready deinstalled it.

You can test it yourself. Make Photos from an object. Leave spots uncovered in your photos or just a few ones. Then process the photos in VisualFSM and in Photoscan Pro (Demo mode) and watch the results! AGI even processed the photos in less time!

Greetings,

Martin

Just think of it this way, if you are going to work with it and make some money, you have to buy a decent camera (or many) and a decent computer, etc. The price for Photoscan then becomes the least of your worries.
And Photoscan is GREAT!

Reading this comment thread, lots of people praising Agisoft and PS for the product performance, which is great - why we all bought it, I'm sure. And I agree it's worth its weight in gold (lots more really, since I don't think my copy actually weighs anything).

But I have to say, I think to find the true meaning of life is to find happiness, not money. And one of the things I enjoy most about Agisoft and Photoscan is the active participation and helping each other by both the users and Agisoft on this forum. I've PM'd and even talked with a few other users who I've met on this board, and the user community is a huge asset as far as I am concerned. For solving problems, bouncing off ideas, even developing the product, it's clear that the Agisoft team and the user community are pretty close-knit (way more than I am used to) and I think that is worth its weight in gold and a very big reason that I would recommend PhotoScan - whether you use this software for art, science, profit, or just for curiousity.

Whilst I agree with these lofty sentiments. Don't forget money does bring you (as in everyone) happiness. Why? Because it gives you options. Options to grow and explore, to employ people, to get further options to meet people, to spread knowledge, learn, help others, push development and grow. Photoscan can enable this and it has done for many businesses now.

If you knew what photogrammetry was like before Photoscan (Dimensional Imaging, Scanner Killer etc) trust me, you would worship Photoscan on a pedestal every morning :)

15 minute - 3 hour stereo calibration times, is no dancing matter! Scanner Killer itself was over $12k, a DI3D 4x camera kit and stereo software was $30k!!
