Dense cloud Power Line Inventory
« on: April 30, 2014, 12:40:02 PM »
Hello  :)
I try generate dense cloud from aerial images to inventory High Voltage Power Line. After process dense cloud building in High Quality there is no points as cables geometry, and even not every tower looks correctly (cut). Width the cables - ca. 5 cm, GSD=3.2 cm (on the ground, but at the level of cable is lower). We can try build dense cloud in Ultra High Resolution, but is it possible to successfully generate point cloud of  cables? Any experiences or tips in this kind of modeling ?
As attachment UAV's images and screenshot in Photoscan  :)

Hello damiano323,

I doubt that it is possible to get power lines and similar thin objects reconstructed with PhotoScan.

The problem has been already discussed on forum, so probably you'll find some useful information in the following topic: http://www.agisoft.ru/forum/index.php?topic=1107.msg5510#msg5510

In this paper "Line-based 3D Reconstruction of Wiry Objects" by M. Hofer, A. Wendel and H. Bischof (TU Graz, Austria) it is shown, how it could be possible to reconstruct wiry objects like power pylons or scaffolds from image sequences: https://online.tugraz.at/tug_online/voe_main2.getVollText?pDocumentNr=296228&pCurrPk=70326
This would be very nice to have in PhotoScan too  ;).
