Turn Off Dense Point Cloud Grid?
« on: May 28, 2014, 07:37:05 PM »
The dense point cloud I get from PhotoScan is very detailed and visually looks very good. But when I zoom in close most of the points actually look like they are aligned to a grid. Is this real data, or is it data interpolated between actual extracted features in order to fill in holes? And is there a way to turn this off, so that I only get the raw point cloud not aligned to a grid? These are two important questions as we move forward trying to market products based on this technology.

Hello matt.vogt,

since the dense point cloud is a result of multiple photo pairs (which consist of grid data (pixel (x,y))), the resulting pointcloud is grided too. If the algorhytm was able to estimate dipsarity for each pixel, the distance between the points should be more or less the same (in case of same distance to the object between each photo pair).
