Angle of incidence to outdoor scene surface

What guidelines/limits would you recommend for capturing photos to model an outdoor scene regarding the angle of incidence to the scene surface?  It appears that perpendicular to the surface is prefered.

Hello Geo,

Perpendicular incidence angles are usually preferable. Aerial photography is known to produce excelent results for ground surface modeling, and there are several approaches which help to obtain similar views using much more cheaper equipment. You can take a look at Kite Aerial Photography and Pole Aerial Photography as an alternative if the ground plane modeling is really required.

In general 45 degree or larger incidence angle should be enough for reasonable reconstruction.
