processing power and working with chunks
« on: July 30, 2014, 01:51:38 AM »
Hi,

I am a new user of Agisoft and have some questions about my project.  I have collected 200 aerial photos using a 16MP camera (no GPS).  I have 10 GCP in the area.  I have a laptop with i5 Core processor and 8GB RAM.

Is my hardware capable of processing this many photos as a single chunk?

If I break up the job into chunks, then I have only 3-4 GCP per chunk.  Is this a problem for DEM accuracy?

Does anyone have a suggestion on the correct workflow for this project?

Thank you kindly for your help.

Mark

Hello Mark,

You can check approximate memory consumption peaks on Tips&Tricks page of our Wiki:
http://www.agisoft.ru/wiki/PhotoScan/Tips_and_Tricks#Memory_Requirements

For better accuracy I can suggest to align all the photos in the single chunk (using Generic preselection), then place markers and optimize the alignment. After that you'll be able to duplicate the original chunk and generate mesh model for smaller areas by resizing the bounding box.
However, it seems that in Height Field mode you can process this set even in High quality.
