Getting Z values for a DEM?
« on: August 20, 2014, 08:04:38 PM »
Hello,
I am trying to create a Digital Elevation Model (DEM) for geologic applications. Unfortunately, the data I am trying to test PhotoScan on is quite old (late 1990's) and lacks camera position information, but does have 1 m accuracy. Polygons of each image foot print have been provided along with terrain height points. I have used the polygons to calculate centroids providing me with X and Y values for the cameras, but I am uncertain how to get Z values. Does anyone have a recommendation on how I can get Z values?
Thanks,
JWall

Hi,

I would try the following:

1. Create a model based on your imagery in PS.

2. Locate points in the cloud (in local PS model coordinates) corresponding to locations of the image boundary polygons (in world coordinates).

3. Use these points to geoference your model.

4. Add addtional known points to optimize the geoferencing.

Best,

Jeff
