layers
« on: September 08, 2014, 07:18:15 PM »
It would be handy to be able to select points from a dense point cloud and move them to their own layer. Then to be able to build a mesh on the same layer from the dense point cloud on that layer, and finally export an ortho image for that layer. This would be useful for cleanly separating elements of an object such as the sides of a structure or excavation square. The ability to toggle layers on and off would also help when selecting points and inspecting dense point clouds.

Sorry, but isn't this similar to masking the point cloud to some extend?

No, layers function like containers.

You can check out this tutorial to get an idea of how layers work:

OK, I see, it's the same like layes in Photoshop for instance.

'Cause talking about layers in a 3D context can mean more than one thing
