Problem with connecting multiple cameras to a single PC
« on: September 23, 2014, 01:32:36 PM »
Hi guys!
Trying to set up a rig with 100 cameras (canon). Got myself a nice i7 4790 (motherboard Gigabyte g1.Sniper z97). Using multiple USB hubs 3.0 with external power source (Orico). So far i could only connect 12 cameras to my PC. which is strange, because last night i connected 22 cameras to my 3 year old laptop. Both run on Windows 7. I only use 3.0 usb cables.
My pc keeps telling me i reached max usb devices limit. Tried to clean registry with usb devices, did not help.
Will appreaciate any feedback
thanks in advance!

Dmitriy

Thanks for the message. These days I don't give out consultancy for free.

USB related problems have been acknowledged by various USB hub manufacturers. "USB3" is totally useless, I think there are some fundamental problems with the drivers and chipsets, namely at Intel's end.

Perhaps the issue will be solved with the next generation of USB.

I would say experiment with different hubs cables and PC's. It is possible to connect for than 75x cameras per pc.

Thanks, Lee
today i came to same conclusion. managed to connect 39 cameras to my laptop and its not the limit. Turned out 6th generation of Intel's chipsets work better than 8th generation.

Yes, I also have a simple 4 year old Dell laptop with USB2 and have all 63 cameras connected to it and working beautifully.

Hi, My another approach is to buy extra USB 3.0 controller card to allow more interface to "groups" of camera.
