Export Depth image scale

The Export Depth image tool appears to create an unscaled 0-255 image. Is there a way to get a scaled (actual distance) depth image for a camera?

Hello callahb,

Recently I've posted a script that saves the depth map as scaled raster (single channel floating point) and grey-scale, as from GUI:
