Align point limit
« on: September 30, 2014, 01:29:17 AM »
Default setting is max 40.000 points when aligning images on high setting.  If set to 0 PS grabs as many points as it can.  Many of my images reach almost 200.000 points.
How does this work?  Will the sparse cloud be much more dens as a result?  The dense cloud should also become even denser as a result of this and also use more RAM?  Will setting point limit to 0 help align the images better?  What is a recommended setting?

Igor in my experiments is 40k  a good choice, have tested use say 100-500-1mil points ( ultracam 120Mpix) and it create problems as to many "points" can see same way. For some specific  datas is OK with 60k... but leaving 0 = unlimited, cause problems and slowdowns of ALIGN stage, significantly....

Thanks!  Good to now so i don't spend time unnecessary processing.  Last project i did was 330 images.  On 80.000 max limit 327 aligned on 40.000 315 aligned.  Not sure if it has a correlation as align photos seem to be a bit of hit and miss?  You can get better alignment if you re process for no particular reason i have noticed.

I've been wondering the same thing; it would be really useful to have some more clarification on this parameter in the User manual

I did a test align on 36mpix images. I tested unlimited point align, 80000 max and 40000 max.  The worst was the unli4ited by far.  Also lot of cameras that aligned was badly misplaced.   Processing time was also very long.  Max 40000 point was the best result by far.  Processing time about 50% faster to.

On another model i had better luck with 80.000 than 40.000 so it seems you have to test a bit.  Unlimited seems not worth testing on the models i have tried it on anyway.
