mini4pro lens calibration problem
« on: February 03, 2025, 02:40:54 PM »
Hi folks,
the camera matching workflow with several dji drones starting from phantom 4, mavic3, mini3pro worked wonderfull.
creating a 3d scan from the aerial drone shots, creating a 3d fbx with cameras, importing and rendering in 3d software,
the 3d renderings and the converted aerial photos were matching perfectly!

But now the dji mini 4 pro converted images do not match the renderings at all. We tried both original 12 and 48 megapixel dji photos.
also metashape lens calibration with checkerboard on highres pc monitor did not help.

Same experiences with mini 4 pro out there? Any ideas, solutions? Would be wonderfull!

no problems anybody else with the dji mini 4 pro?
Yesterday I did another test, shooting the same aerial situation with both mini 3 pro and mini 4 pro.
Running the Metascan workflow, everything default settings.
exporting fbx to 3ds max, rendering a dji camera, compositing of rendering with corrected image from metashape.
perfectly matching 3d model, 3d rendering and corrected images with mini 3 pro
mini 4 pro again way off any matching, both original images and corrected images.

Any help, suggestions really apreciated.

Hello Matthias,

Is it possible to share both datasets corresponding to the same area captured by Mini 3 Pro and Mini 4 Pro to support@agisoft.com, so that we could try to process the data on our side any analyze the problem?

Alexey, sending files is no problem, it would be great to find a solution!

What do you need? There are two sets of arial photograps, 64 x jpg 4k resolution from Mini3 Pro and 86 x jpg 12k from dji mini 4 pro, also two metashape files.
Anything else? Corrected images? Photoshop example?

Our usual workflow fro years now: All metashape settings default / high, aligning photos, creating mesh, exporting model and cams to fbx, importing to 3ds max. added existing buildings corresponding to correct plans and metashape scan model, then rendering, comping in photoshop.

renderings and corrected images from mini 3 pro align more or less "perfectly" for several years (beginning with phantom p4, mavic 3, mini 2, mini 3pro)

the new mini 4 pro is giving heavy trouble. The corrected images are having a more than double broader "black frame" around that might cause the problem. when scaling the corrected images to 105% there is "some kind of better matching".

I ran into issues (see https://www.agisoft.com/forum/index.php?topic=17090.0) but I don't think they are speciifc to the mini4pro.

I made a few sites and the results were very good, once I followed the "best practise" of cleaning up the sparce cloud and optimizing the alignment.

Here is an example:
