well yes the price is right...

I have always wondered what could be so expensive to make in those 3DSystems CMYB 3D printers...? remove the outside carcass, and there is not much in there...

at last CES, 3D systems showed new printers that use the same powder tech like the cerajet, or chefjet, and they are all under $10k.... and I am sure it's already overpriced... hehe

... their old 3D printers are still super expensive.. at $45.000... and a bit bigger at $68.000... that price is no justified by anything inside that machine nowadays ... so it's all marketing (and they squeeze the lemon 'til the last drop) ... besides they were alone for a long time to have a FULL CMYB on the market...
BUT as I said earlier this year, some of the patents 3D systems owned... are now public... so I am  guessing we might see even more Color 3D printers coming soon...

Colin Urquhart at Dimensional Imaging was pioneering stereo pair reconstruction in the early 90's. I learnt the process through DI with their 2x stereo pair DSLR system back in 2009.

It's a concept that dates back into early last century. XYZ-RGB were also the first company to develop an 8x stereo pair system back in 2007. I built the first 60x DSLR volumetric photogrammetry (Agisoft) system in 2011 in LA.

What's disheartening is seeing other studios copy the exact same setup as IR's then start to try and patent it. You can't patent the concept and it's not cool to do it whilst copying another companies layout.
