Can't open psz file from remote desktop?
« on: January 28, 2015, 06:21:21 PM »
Hi All,

I'm trying to open a .psv file and get this error "Can't open file". I am right at the end of my large project (dense cloud build, mesh and texture complete) and the *.psz file is 837 MB. The last operation I completed successfully was to export the dense point cloud (10.9 GB *.txt file). I'm using remote access through Team Viewer and thought it might be due to limited virtual memory, but I was able to open a larger, earlier project with no problems. Any suggestions?

Cheers

Dear 3Dglciers,

Are you sure that the project file wasn't corrupted during previous save operation?

Hi Alexey,

I don't believe that's the case, is there a way I can check? Is there a way to restore/recover psz files?

Thanks

Hello 3Dglaciers,

You can try to use zip-fixing utilities applied to the .psz file.

Hi Alexey,

Thanks. I've been able to open the *.psz file in 7zip and can see the associated project files (*.oct, *.xml, image masks and projection files, etc.). I tried rebuilding the *.psz from a *.zip format using Disk internals Zip Repair. No change, it still loads to about 75% and then... "Can't open file".

I also checked my EXIF/Software parameters for unicode symbols in the xml, as was the issue for other forum users, but I couldn't fine any cases where that might be the problem...

What can I try next?

Thanks!

Hello 3Dglaciers,

Is the project file large? Maybe you can send it or a download link to support@agisoft.com?

Hello 3Dglaciers,

Thank you for sending the project file. Seems like there's some problem with the dense cloud, removing it from .psz. contents makes the project openable, but without the dense cloud. We'll try to provide additional details tomorrow.

Okay, thanks Alexey, at least it's not the whole project!

Hi Alexey,
One other thought, before my project file became unable to open I had exported my dense point cloud to an xyz.txt file. Is it possible to import that cloud back into my repaired project, or will I have to rebuild my dense point cloud from scratch?

Hello 3Dglaciers,

Currently PhotoScan doesn't support dense cloud import, so unfortunately you'll have to rebuild the dense cloud.
